A Way Forward Series: Session One
A Special Session of the General Conference of The United Methodist Church will be held February 23 - 26 in St. Louis, Missouri. The purpose will be to receive and act on a report from the Commission on a Way Forward. The 32-member Commission was authorized to examine paragraphs in The Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality and to explore options to maintain and strengthen the unity of the church. Information Session: Immediately after worship on Sunday, February 3rd, please join us downstairs immediately after worship in our Messy Church chapel to watch a video about the issues being considered at the special conference.* Pastor Melody Tanner and Rev. Tom Statler will be available for a brief Q & A following the showing of the video.
Discussion Session: On Sunday, February 17th, immediately after worship, and in lieu of regularly scheduled Leadership Team meeting, we will host a discussion session to be led by Pastor Melody Tanner and Rev. Tom Statler. Topics will include, but not be limited to, biblical perspectives on same sex relationships; Wesleyan perspectives, tradition and context, and how Ghent Church are called to love the LGBTQ community in light of what the Bible says, and as representatives of Jesus Christ.
